| ABOUT
US
A chicken house in north central Iowa became home
to Country Threads, Inc. in 1983. Connie Tesene and
Mary Etherington, two friends who loved to sew, started
a small quilt pattern business, which has become Iowa’s
largest and best known “quilt shop in a chicken
coop.” The business is located in north central
Iowa on an acreage four miles west of Garner on U.S.
Hwy 18.

The two entrepreneurs, who started by designing four
patterns, currently have designed over 800 patterns
and books. Country Threads patterns are sold in quilt
shops around the world. Farm animals and pets are
an integral part of Country Threads including Susannah,
a pygmy goat; dogs, Carly, Maggie and Lucy; cats,
Aggie, Pearl, Emmet and Maxine. Chickens, goats, geese
and cats also live at Country Threads and greet visitors
and friends.
The
Goat Gazette is published five times a year for a
subscription price of $9.00 and includes what’s
new in the quilt shop as well as animal anecdotes,
an event calendar, free patterns, recipes, and a book
club selection from Connie and Mary.
With the help of a great staff, Connie
and Mary run the quilt shop, the gift shop, design
quilts, write the newsletter, travel and teach and
take care of their homes and families like all other
working women today.
Thank you for visiting our quilt
shop. All of what you see here – and don’t
forget the barn, the gardens, the gift shop and the
pets – make living in Iowa like Heaven!
