Rural Iowa
Iowa has so much to offer! Country
Threads can offer you the best of rural Iowa and have
been doing so for the past 21 years. We are located
4 miles west of Garner in north central Iowa, on a
gravel road surrounded by corn and soybean fields.
The wind turbines gently rise to the southwest of
us and we can smell the corn growing in late July.
The sounds of a small farm from the past are heard
from the barn area where chickens and geese reside
as well as a herd of pygmy goats. Our most well known
goat, Susannah, resides in the barn now as well and
loves having visitors who might have a crust of bread,
cookie or cracker to eat. The resident cats are mostly
people oriented and welcome being carried around by
a child. A homemade putting green is situated by the
lawn chairs for anyone, child or husband, to play
while waiting for their shopper. Green eggs from aracauna
hens can be gathered in the barn every afternoon by
a child (with supervision) who’s willing to
reach into the nest. Where else but a small “farm”
can a child see a live chicken close up, pet a goat,
gather eggs, and generally enjoy a taste of what life
in the country used to be like before confinement
hog buildings and egg laying facilities. It’s
peaceful, relaxing, and comfortable and we invite
all visitors to walk around the yard, the gardens,
the gravel road, the driveway to the pumpkin patch
and the complete “wilderness trail” through
the grove. We hope you’ll visit soon!
